World Travel Awards has announced winners of its Indian Ocean 2020 awards. Maldives bagged four awards, including Indian Ocean's Leading Destination award.

Today is World Travel Awards' Indian Ocean Winners Day, and the winners list are published on the WTA website.

Maldives managed to continue a winning spree on Indian Ocean's Leading Beach Destination award, an award Maldives has been defending since 2013. Maldives was crowned Indian Ocean's Leading Cruise Destination after a six-year halt.

Maldives won the following awards:

  • Indian Ocean's Leading Beach Destination 2020 (won by Maldives since 2013)
  • Indian Ocean's Leading Cruise Destination 2020 (won by Maldives in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013)
  • Indian Ocean's Leading Destination 2020 (won by Maldives in 2003, 2005-2009, 2012-2014, and 2016-2018)
  • Indian Ocean's Leading Dive Destination 2020 (won by Maldives in 2007, and since 2016)

Many tourist properties in the Maldives also won prestigious regional accolades in the World Travel Awards Indian Ocean edition.

Later this month, World Travel Awards will host its Grand Final Gala on November 27, 2020 in Moscow, Russia where the World Winners of the WTA will be announced.

Maldives is running for eight categories, including the most prestigious World's Leading Destination award.
