Airline giant Lufthansa is returning to Maldives, resuming its winter service and post-pandemic operations.

The Germany-based European legacy carrier regularly flew between Frankfurt and Malé City until the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Honorary Consul of Maldives in Germany Andreas Witte, Lufthansa will operate its winter service flights between Frankfurt and Malé City starting from October 27.

Lufthansa had earlier announced that after the winter flights, the airline will continue flights to Maldives throughout summer 2021. Flights are now available for bookings, and fares start at EUR 770 (USD 905).

Lufthansa operates under the Lufthansa Group, along with some well-known subsidiary airlines such as Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

Lufthansa is also the largest airline in Germany, and the Lufthansa Group is the second-largest airline in Europe in terms of passengers carried. Lufthansa is also a founder member of Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world.

Maldives is a World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) certified Safe Travels destination, and travelers are required to present a COVID-19 negative test result of no more than 96 hours prior to entry into Maldives.

A recent study by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) revealed that the risk of COVID-19 transmission onboard aircraft is low, due to the safety measures in place and aircraft design and cabin layout. IATA said more than 1.2 billion people traveled on aircraft in between January and June 2020, yet only 44 cases of air travel-related COVID-19 transmission were reported.
