Russian flag-carrier Aeroflot has recommenced flights between Moscow and Male on Friday, after a brief halt due to COVID-19.

According to Aeroflot, the airline will be operating twice a week to Maldives. Flights will land at Velana International Airport on Thursday and Sundays, and will fly back to Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport on Fridays and Sundays.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic and global border closures, the Russian airline had daily flights to Malé.

According to statistics by Maldives Airports Company Limited, the country's main airport Velana International Airport had recorded some 1,150 flight movements since reopening of the country's borders in mid-July until end of August.

Some large players and regional airlines have recommenced flights back to Maldives, including Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, SriLankan Airlines, Turkish Airways, Air India, and the Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo
