Sun Siyam Vilu Reef hosted various events, on February 4th and 5th, to actively support cancer awareness and promote healthy lifestyles in the Maldives.

The events were held in collaboration with the local council of Dh. Bandidhoo and is part of the many initiatives taken by the company to promote healthy living under the company’s corporate sustainability and social responsibility program, Sun Siyam Cares.

The event kicked off with a fun run, which was followed by a healthy breakfast using local farm island produce, and a number of casual sporting events between visitors and the surrounding villages throughout the day. The local Cancer Society held a number of educational programs on day two, and there was also a women's futsal match and other enjoyable community activities.

There were educational awareness sessions as well, which featured three prominent speakers: Dr. Hassan Maniu Mohamed, Fathimath Suha, and Mohamed Kaleem. All three are promoting a better lifestyle and both Maniu and Suha hold medical degrees from Privolzhsky Research Medical University in Russia and Angeles University Foundation in the Philippines respectively, and both completed their medical internship at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh. Suha has also conducted research in public health and diagnostic immunology. Mohamed Kaleem, who formerly served as the captain of the Maldives national football team, received a lymphoma diagnosis in 2013 but has bravely battled cancer ever since. He now works tirelessly to spread knowledge about cancer and encourage younger people to lead healthy lives.
