Vijay Kumar has been named as the new general manager of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort's wellness-focused facility.
Vijay has previously served as Director of Finance at the W Maldives and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, both of which are well-known brands in the Maldivian tourism sector. He has more than 15 years of stellar experience in management and operations in the hospitality industry, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the position.
Vijay is well known for being an enthusiastic, tactical, and strategic leader who has held a number of positions at various Marriott International properties. He oversaw the finance department in hotels all over the world, from India and Singapore to Malaysia and the Maldives, and he was the driving force behind the opening of four successful hotels. Vijay moved from finance to operations and was appointed hotel manager at The Andaman, a Luxury Collection Resort in Langkawi, Malaysia, in 2018. Under his direction, the hotel undertook a number of innovative initiatives and received various accolades.
Speaking on his appointment, Vijay comments “Being a strong advocate of a balanced lifestyle personally, I am excited to come on board this wellness oasis, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, in my first role as a General Manager and lead a team that strives to create experiences that help guests become the best version of themselves while there are on vacation.”
“Operations has excited me since the beginning of my career however since my core strength was in finance, I grew various ranks in finance and there came an opportunity at The Andaman A Luxury Collection Resort in Langkawi, to head hotel operations and I grabbed it with a learning spirit. Over time I have come to enjoy operations much more than my core role of number crunching,” Vijay reflected on his switch to hotel operations.
In his spare time, Vijay likes to read widely and impress his family with his culinary prowess and unique recipes. He enjoys exploring historic locations and learning about ancient history and art.
