W Maldives, a luxury hotel run in the Maldives by Marriott International's upscale lifestyle hotel chain W Hotels, has appointed Brazilian hotelier Idu Ribeiro as the property's new General Manager.

This appointment comes after W Maldives' most recent General Manager Anuj Sharma moves to take on the Singapore-based position of  Marriott International's Area Director of Operations  Singapore, Malaysia and Maldives.

According to W Maldives, the new GM Idu Ribeiro is a seasoned hotelier with over 24 years of international tourism and hospitality experience. He has previously worked in the industry in five countries across two continents, and his most recent is Panama in Central America, where he served as General Manager at the Actual Marriott Hotel Panama 

Idu's assignment in the Maldives brings his country count up to six, and Asia-Pacific is his third region to work in. His previous assignments have allowed him to develop a multicultural mindset, and cultivate leadership and experience in different disciplines of the industry.

Apart from Idu's professional career, he is also an athlete. He spent the last five years in triathlon training, and have completed two 70.3 Ironman races in Latin America.

W Maldives is located on Fesdu island in North Ari Atoll. The property has a range of beach and overwater villas, and Vice Presidential and Presidential Suite, the WOW Ocean Escape, and the Extreme WOW Ocean Haven.

The resort's design is inspired by the glow-in-the-dark jellyfish and luminous plankton (redhan) that can be spotted on Maldivian shores, and the design reflects the resort brand's contemporary and playful aesthetics
