A team of top journalists from India arrived in Maldives on Sunday as part of a series of familiarization trips by the Visit Maldives campaign.
The journalists are visiting Maldives at the invitation of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation.
MMPRC organizes these trips to enhance the brand presence of Maldives in different key markets across the globe.
This is the first media familiarization trip from India, which has become a key source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives. The popularity of Maldives amongst Indian tourists has skyrocketed since Maldives reopened its borders in July 2020.
The visiting team consists of editors and senior correspondents from The Pioneer, Sunday Guardian, ET Travel World, TMM Magazine, and Sputnik News. They will stay in Maldives from February 21 - 26 and will be primarily hosted at Kagi Maldives and Emerald Maldives. The journalists will experience signature cuisines, wellness & spa offerings that are unique to each property, along with fishing and watersports activities. These experiences will then be covered and published by the individual journalists.

India is a key source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives. The country was the top source market for tourist arrivals in 2020 and moved to the top source market for tourist arrivals this year last week after surpassing arrivals from Russia.
Spurred by the rising popularity for Maldives among Indian travelers, airlines have also increased flights between Maldives and Indian cities.
Visit Maldives has also stated that more marketing activities targeting the Indian market are being planned.
