Maldives, has recorded more than 50,000 tourist arrivals in less than a month.
Statistics of the Tourism Ministry show that Maldives had received 52,941 tourists by the end of January 18.
The figure is significantly lower than the 99,917 tourist arrivals recorded by the island destination during the same period last year – before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted travel.
Tourist arrivals to Maldives had made a significant jump with the influx of holiday travelers for Christmas and New Year, but now remain steady.
Records currently show that Maldives receives an average of 2,500 tourists per day, with an average duration of stay of 9.5 days.
The top source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives this year is Russia, with 13,295 visitors.
The nation has also recorded 9,346 tourist arrivals from India, 4,558 arrivals from Ukraine, 2,788 arrivals from Kazakhstan, and 2,158 arrivals from Romania.
Maldives is currently open to all tourists, provided they have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 96 hours before departure from their original destination.
Tourists are issued 30-day visa upon arrival.
