SriLankan Airlines is gearing up to further its operations by introducing winter flights between Maldives and the UK.  

The airline will be operating a weekly two flights between London's Heathrow Airport and Velana International Airport, Male' City. The flights will commence from December 12, 2020, just in time for the tourist season when the Maldives expects tourist arrivals to reach its peak. The nation is anticipating travelers from all over the world are expected to traverse to Maldives. 

The new operations by SriLankan will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Flights will depart Heathrow at 19.30 and will arrive Velana International Airport at 10.50 the following day. Return flights will also operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, departing Velana International Airport at 11.40 and arriving at Heathrow at 18.00.

The schedule is expected to be followed up until March, whereby flight timings could see a slight change. SriLankan will operate the route until April 13, 2021. It's Oneworld alliance partner British Airways will also be operating between the two nations during this time.

Maldives is open to all tourists and only requires a 96-hour negative PCR test from arrivals. Tourists are not required to undergo any quarantine and are more than free to travel across the nation, which is one of the best travel destinations in the world. Maldives has also recognized as a safe travel destination by the UK which means that travelers returning from Maldives are not required to undergo any quarantine. 

Maldives recently landed on UK’s Global Travel Advisory list, enabling travelers to return to UK without the need for mandatory self-isolation from 25th October 2020.
